“During the press conference of the upcoming Stripdagen Haarlem comix festival today, Thursday April 17, the VPRO Debut Prize 2008 was awarded to Randall.C for his book ‘Slaapkoppen’ [Sleepy heads’]:

Suppose you are dreaming that you are falling asleep. And then you dream. That you are falling asleep and then yet again you are dreaming. This ad infinitum fantasy is the basis of ‘Slaapkoppen’, Randall Casaer’s debut comix, which in the final months of 2007 gripped the hearts of his readers. ‘Slaapkoppen’ [‘Sleepy heads’] is a highly original and funny juggling comix game of clouds and words, dream and reality, poetry and humour, philosophy and absurdity. With the compliments of Carlos Castaneda, Patricia Garfield and Lewis Carroll, Randall C. (from Ghent, Belgium) takes his readers on a dazzling adventure in a dreamed landscape. my dear friend Yves, the worlds most sexy typography-expert and acclaimed & respected writer on letters and design took the time to pimp the f*** out of me & my work. Dont hesitate to read the rest of his blog, it is always educational, funny and well written. And if you really really want to make the world a better place, drop him a note urging him to start designing a font of his own (right now!), just like so many creative and intelligent and sensitive people, he is on a life long filibuster against what he was born to do. The filibustering having great value on its own we can not hold it against him, but still, he should get his feet wet.

Het boek is er!
Toen de uitgever de drukproeven kreeg berichtte hij: “Het ziet er heel mooi uit, ruikt bedwelmend en voelt zoals nylonkousen op warme dijen”. Er is geen woord van gelogen.

Deze week ligt ie dus in de stripwinkel en in de betere boekhandel. Haal Slaapkoppen in huis, voor uzelf, voor uw vrienden, voor uw huisdieren, familie en kennissen (al dan niet overleden, maakt mij allemaal niks uit).

Strip Turnhout, 15 & 16 december

Druk weekje voor de boeg, volgend loopt het hele ratjetoe van het vlaamse stripwezen mekaar voor de voeten op: Strip Turnhout.

Staan op het programma:

• voorstelling van mijn prachtige boekje ‘Slaapkoppen’, gekoppeld aan een duo-expo met de heerlijke Brecht Evens, en diens nieuwe boekje ‘Nachtdieren’. StripelMagazine voelde Brecht over de expo aan de tand.
Expo doorlopend in Kelderlokaal A, Kuub -1.

• in het kader van ‘Gesprekken over Strips’, een trio-babbel met Brecht Evens, Philip Paquet & mezelf, voor zover ik het nu kan inschatten gaat het gesprek over ons & ons werk, wellicht voor een publiek van 5 man en een paardenkop (wie wordt die kop?).
zaterdag 15 december, 12.30-13.15u, bibliotheek

• Grote Prijs PlotsDeluxe, 7 tekenaarsteams maken live & zonder voorbereiding een strip rond een opgelegd maar voorlopig geheim thema, ik denk dat het er om gaat te winnen & vrees in dat geval het meest de competitie van het Mekanik-team (tekenbeest Serge Baeken & spitsbroeders Bert Lézy & Daan Rosseels). In het onwaarschijnlijke geval dat mijn teamgenoten Stedho & Brecht Evens katerloos aan de aftrap verschijnen winnen we evenwel met de vingers in de neus, de tekenhanden op de rug gebonden én aan elk been zeven groupies. Het resultaat wordt vast iets tenenkrullends.
zondag 16 december, 10.30-13.30u, PulpDeluxe-Plots-stand

• Concert Spinvis, met live tekenaars Hanco Kolk, Pieter De Poortere, Maaike Hartjes, Floor de Goede, Peter Kuper, Kim Duchateau, Conz, Serge Baeken, Randall Casaer, Brecht Evens, Jan Van der Veken, Maarten Vandewiele en Lectrr, stuk voor stuk fameuze collegas met magnifieke lichaampjes en scherpe potloden. Afgaande op de repetities wordt het een topper.
zondag 16 december, 20.15u, schouwburg

• tussendoor is het signeren geblazen bij BeeDee, Oogachtend & Pulpdeluxe.
